← Subaru WRX (GD/GG, 2002-2007) problems
Timing belt is an interference-engine risk; 105k mi / 105 months
Reported · Severity: High · Years: 2002-2007
Symptoms
No warning on a belt failure; bent valves and piston damage follow.
Cause
Subaru's schedule is reported as 105,000 miles or 105 months (time counts, not just distance). The engine is described as interference type by a shop checklist. Grassroots also lists 105k for the belt and plugs.
Fix (summary)
Replace belt with tensioner, idlers and water pump as one job, using a new pump gasket. Confirm the interval in your owner's manual; this site did not read the manual itself.
