← Subaru WRX (GD/GG, 2002-2007) problems
Clogged oil-feed screens starving the turbo (P0011)
Reported · Severity: High · Years: 2002-2007 (EJ-powered)
Symptoms
P0011 (intake cam timing) code; turbo wear or failure.
Cause
A turbo rebuilder reports small oil screens (AVCS banjo / turbo feed) clog with varnish from degraded oil; the passenger-side screen feeds both turbo and the intake AVCS solenoid, so the code can appear after the turbo has already run starved.
Fix (summary)
The rebuilder says the specialist community recommends removing the screens on turbo EJs, and to fix the screen before fitting any replacement turbo. Verify against current guidance; the TSB numbers it cites were not independently checked.
