Power window regulators fail (clips, cables)
Added · Updated
What causes "Power window regulators fail (clips, cables)" on the BMW 3 Series (E46, 1999-2006), and how is it fixed?
One owner's repair found the plastic clip holding the cable cylinder had broken. Fix: Replace the regulator (the motor transfers over) or repair the clips, and check the window seal.
Symptoms
Crackling or grinding when the window moves, then a window that jams or drops into the door.
Cause
One owner's repair found the plastic clip holding the cable cylinder had broken. A parts retailer adds that worn window seals add friction and lead to repeat failures.
Fix (summary)
Replace the regulator (the motor transfers over) or repair the clips, and check the window seal. The door airbag connector must be unplugged; reconnecting can leave an airbag light that needs a scan tool to clear.
