Added · Updated

What causes "Oil pressure drops in long, fast right-hand turns on track" on the Toyota GR86 / Subaru BRZ (ZN8/ZD8, 2022+), and how is it fixed?

Under sustained cornering load, oil pools in the cylinder heads instead of returning to the pickup. Fix: No factory fix.

Symptoms

On track, logged oil pressure falls from roughly 50-60 psi into the 20s in long, fast right-hand corners or over crests, mostly above 6,000 rpm.

Cause

Under sustained cornering load, oil pools in the cylinder heads instead of returning to the pickup. This is separate from the RTV problem. Subaru said it stands behind the FA24's design as a road car. Toyota later covered at least two failed engines under warranty, one with a confirmed spun bearing.

Fix (summary)

No factory fix. Owners and shops use a small oil overfill (up to about half to one quart), short-shifting below 6,000 rpm in fast right-handers, and an Accusump-style accumulator. Baffles have shown little or no measurable improvement in the data reported. An oil cooler may cost a few psi. Log oil pressure before trusting any fix.
