Toyota GR86 / Subaru BRZ (ZN8/ZD8, 2022+): Reliability mods
Added · Updated
What are the best reliability mods for the Toyota GR86 / Subaru BRZ (ZN8/ZD8, 2022+)?
It depends on the car’s condition and how you use it. These are the 2 reliability build entries we have sourced for this car: Inspect for RTV in the oil pickup, and drop the pan if you find it (Reported); Track days on an FA24: log oil pressure and manage right-handers (Reported). Each lists caveats, related problems and sources so you can match it to your goal.
Inspect for RTV in the oil pickup, and drop the pan if you find it Reported
On an early FA24, cut open the oil filter at the first changes and look through the drain hole with a borescope. If you see sealant, drop the oil pan, clean the pickup strainer and reseal the pan. Some shops do this once at around 5,000-10,000 miles as cheap insurance, especially before track use.
Caveats: Dropping the pan means new sealant, which must be applied sparingly. Document what you find in case of a warranty claim.

Track days on an FA24: log oil pressure and manage right-handers Reported
Fit an oil pressure sensor and logger before tracking the car. The common mitigations are a small overfill, keeping revs under about 6,000 in long right-hand corners, and an Accusump-style accumulator. Baffles showed little measurable gain in the data reported.
Caveats: No mitigation has factory backing, and overfilling has its own risks. Warranty coverage for track use is decided case by case.
