Notes
The dealer guide says an NB2 VVT engine can go into a 1994-97 car, reusing several NA parts and needing NB radiator hoses and throttle cable; an aftermarket ECU is recommended to run the VVT. On 1990-93 cars a Flyin' Miata swap kit is needed. Many parts (intake manifold, ECU, MAF, 2001-05 coils) are not interchangeable. The 1.6 shortblock does not take NB parts.
