What are the best wheels & tires mods for the BMW 3 Series (E46, 1999-2006)?
It depends on the car’s condition and how you use it. These are the 1 wheels & tires build entry we have sourced for this car: E46 square wheel setups: 17x9 ET42 or 18x8.5 ET35-40 (Reported). Each lists caveats, related problems and sources so you can match it to your goal.
E46 square wheel setups: 17x9 ET42 or 18x8.5 ET35-40 Reported
For a non-M E46, 17x9 ET42 with 245/40R17 all round is a popular street and track size, and 18x8.5 ET35-40 with 225-235 tires is the easy OEM-plus choice. Going much wider (18x9 ET31 / 18x10 ET43) needs front camber and rolled rear fenders.
Caveats: 5x120 with a 72.6 mm bore and M12x1.5 cone-seat bolts. Lower offsets than ET35 need rear clearance and camber. Single-source sizes.
Parts: 17x9 ET42 wheels with 245/40R17 tires (square), 18x8.5 ET35-40 wheels with 225/40R18 or 235/40R18 tires (square), Apex EC-7 staggered set (18x9 ET31 front / 18x10 ET43 rear), Factory wheel-bolt spec, E46 (M12x1.5 cone-seat bolts, 120 N·m)
