Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ / Scion FR-S (ZN6/ZC6, 2013-2020): First steps mods

Added · Updated

What are the best first steps mods for the Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ / Scion FR-S (ZN6/ZC6, 2013-2020)?

It depends on the car’s condition and how you use it. These are the 1 first steps build entry we have sourced for this car: Check recalls and service bulletins before you modify (Confirmed). Each lists caveats, related problems and sources so you can match it to your goal.

Check recalls and service bulletins before you modify Confirmed

Before spending on parts, run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup. The 2013 valve-spring recall and the 2018-19 fuel-pump recall can both stall the car, and older FR-S and 86 automatics have a key-interlock recall. Dealers also have bulletins for oil seepage, a harmless DI-pump chirp and a creaky clutch pedal, which are worth raising while the car is in for recall work.

Caveats: Recall eligibility is by VIN and build date, not just model year. Bulletins are not free repairs outside warranty.
