Rust: frame rails, strut towers, spare well and under the hatch spoiler
Added · Updated
What causes "Rust: frame rails, strut towers, spare well and under the hatch spoiler" on the Nissan 240SX (S13, 1989-1994), and how is it fixed?
Age and road salt. Fix: Inspect underneath on a lift, probe the sills, pull the trunk carpet, and ask for receipts on any frame rail repairs.
Symptoms
Bubbling paint or holes at the rear wheel arches, sills, strut towers, battery tray, spare tire well, hatch corners and under the factory hatch spoiler; patched frame rails.
Cause
Age and road salt. The foam factory hatch spoiler holds moisture against the metal. Fresh undercoating can hide damage.
Fix (summary)
Inspect underneath on a lift, probe the sills, pull the trunk carpet, and ask for receipts on any frame rail repairs. Walk away from structural rot.
