It depends on the car’s condition and how you use it. These are the 1 first steps build entry we have sourced for this car: Check an Evo VIII/IX's recalls by VIN (Reported). Each lists caveats, related problems and sources so you can match it to your goal.
Check an Evo VIII/IX's recalls by VIN Reported
Run the VIN through NHTSA before buying or working on the car. Open campaigns can include 04V-138 (2003 label), 05V-335 (2005 turbo coolant hose), 16V-334 (2006 passenger air bag) and 16V-458 (front crossmember corrosion in salt states, 2003-06).
Caveats: Recall 17V-569's summary also names 2004-06 Lancer Evolutions, but NHTSA's vehicle list and by-vehicle lookup show only the Lancer, so a VIN check is the only way to be sure.
Related issues: Recall 04V-138: wrong weight ratings on the certification label (2003), Recall 05V-335: turbocharger coolant hose may leak (2005), Recall 16V-458: front crossmember corrosion can let the lower arms detach (salt states), Recall 16V-334: passenger front air bag inflator may rupture (2006), Recall 16V-458: front crossmember corrosion can let the lower arms detach (salt states)
